Lane Construction Corporation has been selected to design and build a $582-million contract tied to the Florida Department of Transportation’s Moving I-4 Forward program, a major initiative aimed at improving safety and travel reliability along one of Central Florida’s busiest corridors.
The modified phased design-build contract covers a key segment of the broader program, which is part of the state’s largest infrastructure push and is accelerating transportation upgrades by 10 to 20 years to keep pace with population and economic growth.
Lane, a U.S. subsidiary of Webuild Group, was awarded Moving I-4 Forward Project 2, which involves reconstructing and widening a 3.1-mile stretch of Interstate 4 in Osceola County. The project area extends from east of County Road 532 to west of World Drive.
Work will include reconfiguring the State Road 429 interchange and adding new ramps connecting to State Road 538 Poinciana Parkway, both considered critical links in the regional transportation network.
The project will add two new express lanes in each direction along I-4 and create direct connectors between I-4 and SR 429/SR 538, aiming to streamline traffic flow for both general-use and express-lane drivers. Once complete, the corridor will be expanded to four general-purpose lanes and two express lanes in each direction, a configuration expected to ease congestion, particularly during peak travel periods.
Additional improvements include widening Old Lake Wilson Road from two to four lanes and adding sidewalks and bicycle lanes on both sides to enhance safety and local connectivity.
The Moving I-4 Forward program falls under the state’s broader Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative, which is advancing projects across Central Florida, including in Polk County and Orange County. The plan calls for adding express lanes along I-4 from west of U.S. 27 to east of World Center Drive (State Road 536).
Officials say the program will reduce travel times, improve safety, and strengthen infrastructure to support long-term regional growth.
Florida has been a core market for Lane for more than 30 years, with the company involved in several major highway projects across the state. Current work includes improvements at the I-4/SR 33 interchange in Polk County, I-4/SR 535 and I-4/Sand Lake Road interchanges in Orange County, and the I-275/I-4 interchange in Tampa.
The company recently accelerated construction on Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 91) in Minneola, opening a third southbound lane nearly three years ahead of schedule.
With the contract award, the I-4 project is expected to move forward as part of the state’s broader effort to modernize critical transportation infrastructure across Central Florida.
