Florida’s construction industry posted the strongest job gains among all major sectors in August, adding 3,600 positions, according to new data from FloridaCommerce.

The sector’s growth helped drive statewide employment increases as Florida’s economy continued to expand. The information sector added 2,300 jobs and manufacturing grew by 1,700. Overall, Florida’s private sector employment rose by 85,400 jobs, or one per cent, over the year.

Industry observers note that construction employment has been one of the state’s most consistent drivers of job growth, supported by high demand for housing and infrastructure development.

Florida’s unemployment rate stood at 3.8 per cent in August, remaining lower than the national average for the 59th straight month. The state has now recorded job gains in 58 of the past 64 months since May 2020.

Florida was also ranked the top state in the nation for attracting and developing skilled workers for the third consecutive year by labour analytics firm Lightcast. Its annual Talent Attraction Scorecard cited job growth, education levels, competitiveness and migration patterns as contributing factors.

Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly said state programs remain focused on workforce training to meet industry needs, including construction.

The August data indicate strong demand for skilled labour across Florida, with more than 459,000 job postings online statewide.
